Brüno

was just, eh. quite funny in parts, a bit slow in others and lacked much of a narrative; the ending was also a bit anticlimactic.

the evolution or, well, devolution of baron cohen’s brüno character from the ali g series until now has been a bit underwhelming. the need for a feature-length narrative seems to have forced an embrace of shock over comedy. the worst thing to happen to brüno is borat, a film which it justifiably be juxtaposed. the former’s deficiencies do much to reinforce the greatness of the latter. overall, brüno is a film worth seeing - if not only for the few scenes and lines that will surely make their way into our culture meme - but it is also one that a potential viewer can more than likely wait for its dvd release.

so far, with the exception of the hangover, this summer’s movie season has been a letdown. however, i am looking forwards to funny people and the new mike judge flick (though it appears ben affleck is playing james franco’s pineapple express character).

what are your thoughts on brüno and this summer’s movies?
